This golfing event is now held every year in remembrance of Nick Slade who died suddenly from cancer in early 2018. He was a Red Team member at the inaugural “Wider Cup” event in 2017.
The teams comprise four players each and the competition is played over four rounds, in matchplay format. This year the Red’s successfully defended their title, with a score that was actually closer than it appeared.
The individual completion was won by Andy Bourne - who receives the cup at a presentation lunch in December. Once again for the third time in a row, Jonny came second! (some would say that is,
at the very least, consistent).
I also created a short video of the event which you can view here

Jonny was lucky enough to play golf at the famous Formby Golf Club links last week.
The course is famous for hosting a number of very good events including the British Amateur and the Arnold Palmer Cup to name but two.
It was a windy and wet day not ideal for golf, but often is the case at a links course. Play was suspended for around 20 minutes during a downpour. I’d like to say I played well, but sadly it was a below average game for me!
One of the features of Formby is the ‘hippo’ when one of the members bequeathed a hippo to the club. The hippos was strapped to a warship and upon return from service has been on the wall at Formby ever since. Each year members play for the Hippo Trophy!

PE Creative are proud to sponsor ladies European Tour player Charlotte Thompson.
Charlotte met Jonny in Spain when she finished in second place at the Reserva Club, Sotogrande. More recently she finished second in the Czech Open in Prague. It's been a great season so far and with three events to go, we all hope she can go one better!!!
One of the longest hitters on the LET Charlotte is excited to be partnering with PE Creative and just "loves the logo on her bag"!
Charlotte sports the PE logo on her tour bag - we hope to help develop her website next season along with her overall branding too.
Play well Charlotte, we wish you the best!

On a hot sunny day last weekend I was was delighted to win the Golfino Invitational event. Hosted by the Martina and Sandra, from Golfino Clothing, this event saw some 60 plus golfers taking on the links...
Shooting a stableford score of 41 points was a suprise - it was just one of those days when the game just 'clicked'. Those of you who play golf will know this feeling. It's very hard to replicate but gives us all hope and inspiration to play more!
After the event there was even a fashion show with some of Golfino's latest catalogue being showcased on the catwalk - if you like golf fashion then you'll love Golfino. The day ended with a delicious pizza supper and high hopes for more good golf.
So, it was with high hopes that I entered the Kedleston Park Seniors competition the following Sunday.
All was going well and after 7 holes I was only two over par, so on track for a good score so it seemed...that was until a mind blowing (in the wrong kind of way) five over on the notorious 7th!
This simple 153 yard par three over water has scuppered many a good round and mine on this day was no exception! I put two balls in the water...then after a five off the tee ended up making a soul destrying eight, thus using up over half my handicap allowance.
Just like life, golf deals us highs and lows and we should never take a good score for granted - enjoy the good times and forget the bad...!!!
If you fancy a game of golf anytime and wish to discuss your next project on the course then give us a call on 01332 291141 and we can tee it up!
I know we all like to blow our own trumpets from time to time, but sometimes our business 'rivals' deserve a mention too!!!
This is David and Denise Leatt of Three Sixty Media who are good friends of mine. The photo shows them being presented with one of five cups for their golfing triumphs at Kedleston Park this season by the Lady Captain and Captain.
We often play golf together and I am delighted that they did so well. Denise, having taken up golf only three years ago has improved coming down from the mid thirties to 25 and David who has managed to get his handicap down to 6 this season, (no mean feat given that he only plays about 6 times a week!)
Well done you two, lets hope that 2019 brings you more second places..!!!
I was lucky enough to win free tickets to the British Masters golf hosted by Justin Rose at Walton Heath Golf Club last weekend.
Andy and I enjoyed a windy and wet but fun filled day at Walton Heath where we both got to see and hold the Ryder Cup. Europe's Captain Thomas Bjorn was at the event and kindly brought along the cup for spectators to see.
The eventual winner was Eddy Pepperell who shot a superb score to win by one shot ahead of Sweden's Bjork.
We were also able to enter in to the MOLIWOOD spirit (for those of you who are not golfers, this is a reference to the Ryder Cup winning partnership of Italy's Francesco MOLInari and England's own Tommy FleetWOOD. Whom the press aptly dubbed MOLIWOOD)!
I rather like this creative wordplay and I think it would be good for clients to think of type as a way to improve their own communications...If you'd like to hear more about how we use type to great effect, give us a call on 01332 291141.
Next week eight interpid golfers embark on the second Wider Cup to be held in Marbella, Spain. This event was renamed the Nick Slade Wider Cup in memory of Nick who sadly untimely passed away earlier this year.
Nick was a giant of a man who lived life to the full. A larger than life character with a left handed golf swing who made friends with eveyone he met. He will be missed and I am sure that more than a few toasts will be made in his name next week.
The Nick Slade Wider Cup deserved a branding befitting of his charisma, so I designed this logo (based on his lefty swing and customary reveresed baseball hat). The logo has been produced on all sorts of apparel from shirts and hats to pin badges as well as score sheets and rules etc.
The picture shows Jonny and Nick last year at Santa Clara Golf Club.
If you have an event you'd like to brand, then why not give the team a call on 01332 291141 and we will be delighted to discuss your requirements
Dave and Denise Leatt from 360 Media in Derby are both friends of mine and we often play golf together.
However, Denise wanted to try something different and having decided to try skiing again, she managed to convince Dave to take up the sport. I offered to help them to feel the planks under their feet and gave them both a lesson at the Snowdome.
Denise had skied before and it didn't take her long to find her feet whilst Dave started like all beginners, with slight apprehension (like me he has a bad knee), however after around 1.5 hours he really got it...
They plan to visit Zell am See in Austria in January 2018 and I hope to join them out there for a day. I am sure a week on real snow in resort will do thiwer skiing wonders.
Let's hope it works out!
STOP PRESS!!
We did meet up in Zell am See - The photo below is the photographic proof!
Jonny was proud to have won the 2017 Kedleston Park Autumn Cup. This is a 36 hole competition played over consecutive weekends. In the first round he was able to shoot 8 over par. This meant that the pressure was on to play well in the second round...
Round two got off to a good start and after 10 holes he was only 4 over par...on course for another good score...however the dreaded par three 11th took its dues...where he carded a ridiculous four over par six. Underterred he went on to shot a level par score, which luckiluy was just enough to remain four under net.
The picture shows Captian (ex Scottish International and Nottingham Forest player Kenny Burns and the Lady Captain presenting the prize crystalware...

Way back in the day...(or in fact back in the 1990s) We did a lot of creative for Ron Harris the CEO of Baron Systems. Some of you may recall Golf Agent and the Baron suite of booking systems.
Last month I was in Leeds for a meeting and purely on the off-chance I texted Ron to see if he fancied a game of golf. After some funny stealth text messages I was lucky enough to get to play a round with him and his wife Rita at Headingley Golf Club.
We had a great game and it was really fun to catch up with them both. Brought back fond memories of the many WITs golf days and the MK Cup.
Thanks to Ron and Rita for the game I look forward to reciprocating soon...

I was lucky enough to visit the Open this month - golf's most revered major championship. The Open was won this year by 23 year old Jordan Spieth who had an amazing Sunday back nine...closing with birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie, par. Quite simply put - amazing!
Spending time on the links watching the worlds greatest golfers is inspiring. So much so that I also ended up playing three lovely local courses.
Southport and Ainsdale is best known for hosting back to back Ryder Cups in the 1930s. This course was in superb condition and I was lucky enough to finish with the same ball I started with, shooting a lovely gross 14 over.
West Derby is a Liverpool gem - hidden away unexpectedly within a housing area, you could blink and miss it. However, this tight little course played pretty tough and has a cheeky little stream running through the course which is like a ball magnet...!
Hesketh is the oldest course in the area and offers a superb challenge. With two closing par fives it lets you repair a lot of damage, or so I thought. Parring the 17th I went on to play a lovely drive up the left hand side of 18, followed by a sublime 5 iron to leave exactly 70 yards to the flag. Routine par five...on no siree. I flailed at a 58 degree wedge only to pull my shot onto deep rough. It took me a further 5 shots to eventually hole out for a grim 7...not quite how I visualised the closing hole!
Still 12 over wasn't too bad for the day.
As an avid golf fan I was saddened by the demise of one of the games true greats, a child phenomenon and genius. A winner of 14 majors, and 73 PGA wins. A player who won 25% of the events he entered. Nobody else in the modern era has even come close.
Tiger Woods may be the greatest golfer of all time, if stats alone were to weigh. However he has (only!) won 14 majors against Jack's 18. So the history books will only ever have him in second place in this respect.
From a glittering start to his professional career "Hello World" to his loss of form and breakdown of marriage and health, Woods has always been in the news. Be that good or bad, his presence on a golf course or at an event creates a buzz.
I have seen him play the Open several times (at the Belfry Ryder Cup, St Andrew's when he won, at Open, Lytham when he lost to David Duval and at the Open Hoylake when he won a few months after his father's death. He stood tall and confident, almost ethereal. At the pinnacle of his game.
Yesterday the news of his arrest for DUI and subsequent press photos is just so sad. It almost underlines his current life status. Jack Nicklaus made the comment that "we need to help Tiger" and I completely agree.
Tiger brought so much to the game - distance, power, accuracy, charisma, deft touch, not to mention some of the greatest shots we will ever see. Those of us who saw him in his prime will never forget the sound of his ball striking, nor the elegance and poise. How should the game repay him?
I think that 'someone' should take control of the situation - I have no idea how this could happen or who could do this. But clearly he needs support.
Look what I found in an old golf bag in the garage! If you remember where this ball was used let me know! One of the first balls we branded for an event in 1992!
If you need your balls branding just give us a call and we will be happy to take a look for you...
We also do all kinds of other branded merchandise too - from pens to fans to umbrellas and mugs - virtually anything can be branded nowadays. So just give us a call on 01332 291141.
Every now and then we come across an animal that simply cries out to photographed. We don't always get the shot we wanted, but every now and then a little gem is captured.
On a late season golfing trip to Lake Garda in Italy I caught this beautiful puss 'rolling'. Somehow the light, aesthetic and crop are in almost perfect harmony. There is something about the bike and pot along with the perfect ambient light that makes this a beautiful shot of a furry friend.
One wonders if its just luck or artistic eye that gets a result like this, whatever it may be I am
lucky to have met this feline friend!
Jonny was lucky enough to go to the Solheim Cup in St Leon Rot in Germany in September.
The event, for those of you not in the know, is known as the "Ladies Ryder Cup". Three days of superb golf played between the USA and Europe.
This year the USA won against remarkable odds, with a superb showing in the final days singles matches, overcoming a 3 point deficit.
Unlike the Ryder Cup, it is possible to get quite close to all the players, and I had the fortune to meet and speak to US golf legend Patty Hurst winner of 6 LPGA events and also a major in 1995.
Karsten Solhiem the founder and owner of Ping started the "Solhiem Cup" in 1990. As a manufacturer and main sponsor Ping also supply clubs to some of the World's greatest golfers, including the UK's Lee Westwood and 2012 Masters winner, Bubba Watson.
In fact some of Bubba's clubs were on display and I was given the chance to hold them. This was the wedge that drew a ball some 35 yards in the air and put the ball inside 10' and the putter he used for his first major win...
Take a look at the video of the shot physics - quite amazing...163 yards with a gap wedge is almost unreal, but to also shape the shot, under that presssure...well its something we can dream of!
